Allowlisting

Allowlisting

If you seem to be having problems accessing the Safer Schools Isle of Man Portal or the Web App on a device in school, the issue may lie in websites not being on your School’s Allowlist.

Info
"An allowlist is a cybersecurity strategy that approves a list of email addresses, IP addresses, domain names or applications, while denying all others"

This could relate to the network as a whole, or to individual devices. You’ll identify this as an issue if you are presented with a plain white screen when entering the URL.

Can no-one In The School See the Website?

If everyone who tries to access the Portal or Web app is presented with a white screen, this means they has likely not been placed on the Allowlist for the school’s network. This can be rectified by speaking with your school’s IT Technicians and they can get them added and allowed for all devices on the network.

Are you the Only One Who Cannot Access the Portal?

If it is just you who is having difficulties on your device accessing the Portal or the Web App, it would seem that the problem is at device level.

If it is a New Device to the school’s network, it may need to be allowed to access certain websites directly. Speak with your IT Team in school if you think this is the case.
